3 Little Pigs Chi 🐷🐷🐷 (munchies reflection)

After watch watching a couple of videos on the Munchies youtube channel, I ran into a video about a man named, Henry Cai. He is the owner of 3 little pigs Chi, a restaurant based in Chicago, Illinois. In the video he talks about his accidental success, and how it’s changed his life.

In start of the video Henry mentions how his recipes started off as crazy experiments he used to try with his favorite food for instance, barbecued ribs and fried chicken. He then leveled up to a 200 square foot kitchen, where all he does is cook and work on his craft. He sells plates of food through his website and sometimes even through instagram direct messages. He laters says how he likes the fact that some of his customers direct message him, because it allows him to build a relationship with them and provide the best customer service. In his words “In like 5-10 years I still hope to maintain that relationship, with both old customers and new customers.” He says he wants to be a father figure to his consumers. He also thanks social media and his fans for his accomplishments, it was a major part of his success.

Watching this video made me hungry, but aside from me obviously liking the food, I like how he connected this food to his experience as a child to immigrant parents and not being able to fit in growing up. In the video Henry says, “Untraditionally Authentic” My slogan for 3 Little Pigs Chi, it represents just me and all children of immigrants. The struggle to fit in with American culture, and staying true to our ancestors, our roots, this food represents us. You know cause we eat American food, we eat Chinese food, we Mexican food. We eat all types of food I wanna put it all together.” This shows how he uses food to balance out his cultural beliefs and identity without feeling guilty for practicing another one.
