Graphic Novel Presentation

    Reflection

The most exciting part about this project is being able to see all my ideas on how I pictured them in my mind and being able to go home and share this with my aunt. Something that really helped my process when creating this project was the "Munchies" video and the 3 little pigs chi restaurant. Seeing how he connected his food to his experience with struggling to fit into American society without losing sight of his true beliefs, inspired me to use my recipe presentation to further explain, and she through pictures what my favorite dessert meant to me. Not only did munchies help me, but my peers did as well hear how symbolic the food and snacks were significant to them, and their lives allowed me to be more open and comfortable with sharing my story, and I find being able to illustrate my previous thoughts through pictures cool. Using this graphic novel format helped me further understand the power of symbolism. How things that may appear simple to us, could represent and mean something special to someone else. From doing this entire experience, from reading food blogs, to watching videos on food, and making my own blog and having discussions in class, it has made me realize, that anything can play into identity, or represent something in your life. I also learned you never know what someone has gone through. This project is allowing me to get to know other people and be able to relate to them and build relationships.

  1. Hearing your story makes this graphic novel powerful. I love banana pudding as well so I see why it hits the way it does. I will have to say you have to try bread pudding if you like pudding as much as you say you do. Overall your story is great and I love hearing it from you. Great great job.

  2. First off, I really like the layout of your blog. It's simple but personalized. Regarding this assignment, I agree with you. This assignment has really demonstrated how effective symbolism can be to tell different narratives and how different interpretations can be made based on this. Similar to what you said identity is something that can't be narrowed down or fit into one specific box, it can be affected by anything, and I think I can see that based on your blog and everyone else's. -Briana

  3. I love how you connected your inspiration to the other assignment we did in the week. I never watched that munchies video but seeing how you got inspired by it gives me a good impression on what it may have been like. Not to mention you used the word symbolism in your reflection. It shows me that you definitely took the time you had here and the things you learned to heart. - Abdullahi
