10-n-1 method

The article I read was from Culture Decanted, it was called “  Eating yourself: We consume identity through food?” The article focuses on how the food we consume contributes to who you are as a person. Using the 10-n-1 method I was able to come up with a couple ideas/observations about the article. 1. Food can contribute to kind of person you are. 2. Food can be found as common ground for everyone and anyone you meet. 3. Food can be used as a way to communicate with those around you. 4. Food can be used in a political way, for example the kind of foods you eat can represent your class. 5. The quality can represent your social ranking. 6. Food can be a considered a key factor in language and literature and art. 7. Cultural identities can connect to the foods you eat. 8. The effects of what we consume can connect to the down fall of our environment. 9. Food is the foundation of who we are, “You are, what you eat”. 10. Your diet connects to your actions and how you ...

Food and Identity Reflection

After learning a lot about how food identity connect, I decided to do some research and finds some other people's take on the topic. In the article   “Food, Self and Identity”   It talks about how food connects to people in different ways, the article states “The approach it adopts, however, is based on the realization that the human relationship to food obviously is a complex one. It combines at least two different dimensions. The first runs from the biological to the cultural, from the nutritional function to the symbolic function. The second links the individual to the collective, the psychological to the social. Yet a rapid overview of the abundant literature on human food suggests that few of the salient works on the subject have directly addressed this multi-dimensional character.” This quote basically explains how you can connect with food on a mental level and not just through culture. In ...

PSA ‼️

REFLECTION  The message I was trying to convey to the audience is these modified foods such as hotdogs are the worst thing you can possibly consume. They are made in factories and are mixed with hundreds of ingredients and we eat it like its candy. I dont agree with hotdogs and thats why I made this video. Canva was the website that I used and it was very beneficial. I was able to reference a template and this saved me lots of time. Joy Bauer’s website talks about how unhealthy the processed meat is and how it can cause colon cancer. I came across a blog named Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, it talks about how hotdogs can cause colorectal cancer, cardiovascular disease, and early death. The genre of my PSA opened me up into the life of a factory worker and the process to making a hotdog. It is much more abstract then the final product we get and thats why I felt I had to share the message. I think I did a pretty good job at convincing my audience ...

Snickers Ad

Snickers Ad:  https://youtu.be/MixNh9L7G5M     Snickers ads has to be my ultimate favorite, especially the one with Joe Pesci and Don Rickles. The ad starts off with the two guys flirting with 2 other females as the conversation progresses you Joe Pesci get loud with the two girls and start to cause a scene. He then gets pulled away from them by his friend, his friend then offers him a snickers suggesting he’s not himself, implying that he’s hangry. After eating the snickers he turns into a regular college boy and goes back to talk to the girls. When the get back he notices the girl he was talking to turned into Don  Rickles, and called him a loser implying he rubbed her the wrong way.     I’ve always loved the ad not only because it was funny, but also because I could relate to it. When I’m hungry I tend not to be my best self, and could come off as angry or bitchy. But after I eat I tend to go back to my regular self. I also liked the ad because I really ...

Graphic Novel Reflection

After all my ranting and raving about my aunt and banana pudding, I decided it was only fair to show her the project. After her telling me how much she loved it, I went onto ask her some questions. One question I asked   was , what was her favorite part of the presentation? And she replied, “My favorite part was the entire project, the fact that you took the time to write about me of all things, I’m glad I was able to make such an impact”. I also asked what   was something   she realized? And she stated that she didn’t realize how much boxed pudding had an effect on me, and not just me but her as well. Now that she’s heard my perspective on   our   bonding experience, she says “making banana pudding was something that made me happy because it made you happy, especially when I watched you eat the rest of the pudding mix out of the bowl. I don’t know why but, it just did something to me. It made me feel like I was doing something right, ...

Graphic Novel Presentation

Image
Reflection              The most exciting part about this project is being able to see all my ideas on how I pictured them in my mind and being able to go home and share this with my aunt. Something that really helped my process when creating this project was the "Munchies" video and the 3 little pigs chi restaurant. Seeing how he connected his food to his experience with struggling to fit into American society without losing sight of his true beliefs, inspired me to use my recipe presentation to further explain, and she through pictures what my favorite dessert meant to me. Not only did munchies help me, but my peers did as well hear how symbolic the food and snacks were significant to them, and their lives allowed me to be more open and comfortable with sharing my story, and I find being able to illustrate my previous thoughts through pictures cool. Using this graphic novel format helped me further understand the power of symbolism. How...

3 Little Pigs Chi 🐷🐷🐷 (munchies reflection)

After watch watching a couple of videos on the Munchies youtube channel, I ran into a video about a man named, Henry Cai. He is the owner of 3 little pigs Chi, a restaurant based in Chicago, Illinois. In the video he talks about his accidental success, and how it’s changed his life.      In start of the video Henry mentions how his recipes started off as crazy experiments he used to try with his favorite food for instance, barbecued ribs and fried chicken. He then leveled up to a 200 square foot kitchen, where all he does is cook and work on his craft. He sells plates of food through his website and sometimes even through instagram direct messages. He laters says how he likes the fact that some of his customers direct message him, because it allows him to build a relationship with them and provide the best customer service. In his words “In like 5-10 years I still hope to maintain that relationship, with both old customers and new customers.” He ...

My “aha” moment

Everyone at some point in life will have an “aha” moment. Some moments may be significant while others may be small, either way it is when you recognize or comprehend something. Ultimately, it is coming to an important understanding, almost like when the light bulb turns on in your head. It is almost like a sense of relief.   Generally, “aha” moments are usually triggered by real life examples, asking questions, reflection activities and / or problem solving in teams.     As earlier stated,   “aha” moments are usually triggered by real life examples, asking questions, reflection activities and / or problem solving in teams   just to name a few. I realized my “aha moment simply off of my experience today and speaking with my mother about how I was feeling. She provided me with some great advice which allowed me to change my thoughts on the matter and now I am feeling relieved. In short, value the “aha moment, it is a powerful feeling!  ...

Recipe Presentation!

When I was 3 years old to about 9 years old, Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday, not because of my family, not because the fun games we used to play, but because of the Banana Pudding, the process of making it was fun. Me and my aunt used to be in the kitchen every night before I used to eat the residue out of the bowl, while my aunt laughed. To you it may seem like a random moment but to this is what allowed us to bond.  In we speak about how people use their cultures and traditions represent parts of their personality and background, and a one people do that is through food. For instance, the “What I Eat” photo project, showed a bunch of people around the world showing off their daily and what they eat and how it ties to their personal and cultural life, for example João Agustinjo Cardoso, a fisherman, has a typical daily meal at his floating house on a t...

WHAT I EAT

Image
For lunch today I had chipotle, I got a Burrito bowl. My typical bowl would consist of, White rice, steak (sometimes half steak, half chicken if I’m feeling greedy), lettuce, sour cream, cheese, black beans, and I top it off with some vinaigrette. Eating these bowls I consume about 750 calories. These tend to cost about 10 to 20 dollars depending on how you make it and what you choose to put in it.
